Let's pray for this:
CHINA
– Trial for Detained Christian Delayed – China Aid Association Chinese officials have yet to declare a new court date for Alimujiang Yimiti, a Christian house church leader and ethnic Uyghur in China’s northwest province of Xinjiang, detained since his arrest on Jan. 12, China Aid Association reported. In mid-October, Chinese state prosecutors returned Yimiti’s case to a Xinjiang court for consideration. Charges against Yimiti include “inciting secessionist sentiment to split the country” and “collecting and selling intelligence for overseas organizations,” CAA reported in June. Yimiti converted from Islam to Christianity more than 10 years ago and became active in the growing Uyghur church. Media reports state that Yimiti’s friends have said they believe his faith is the real reason for his arrest. Officials have threatened to hand down a sentence ranging from six years in prison to the death penalty. Pray for Yimiti and his family during this difficult time. Ask God to protect and comfort them and for believers in China to continue living out their faith unashamedly. Philippians 4:6-7
ALGERIA
– Christians Acquitted in Blasphemy Case – Compass Direct News On Oct. 29, a court in northwestern Algeria acquitted three Christians charged with blaspheming Islam and threatening a member of their congregation who reconverted to Islam, Compass Direct News reported. The defendants believe the judge’s decision to acquit was due to the spurious evidence used against them. The acquittal also comes as part of a larger trend of the Algerian government bowing to negative international media attention and government condemnations of such cases, they said. Defendant Youssef Ourahmane said that as a result, a recent government crackdown against evangelical Christians has eased off in recent months. “We had noticed the last four or five months the government is trying to back down a little bit,” Ourahmane said. “I think the pressure on them has been strong, such as condemnations from the U.S. and foreign ministries from France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Spain. This pressure from outside has embarrassed the Algerian government very much,” he added. Pray for believers in Algeria who face intense challenges when they live their lives for Christ. Ask God to encourage them and for grace to forgive their persecutors. Isaiah 54:17
KAZAKHSTAN
– Pastor Sentenced to Community Service for Leading Unregistered Church – Forum 18 News Baptist pastor Andrei Blok has been sentenced to 150 hours of compulsory community service following his refusal to pay a fine for leading an “unregistered congregation,” Forum 18 News reported. “If not for many telephone calls to the court and city officials from around the world, Andrei could have been put into prison for several months," his family told Forum 18 News. Yuliya Merkel of the local Justice Department insisted to Forum 18 that Blok "needs" to register his church, and refused to say what would happen if the church continues to worship without registration. Pray for Pastor Blok, his family and congregation. Ask God to bless and encourage them during this challenging time. Pray they will be a witness of Christ’s love to their persecutors. 1 Corinthians 15:57
Now that we have the freedom to worship our Mighty God without inteferences, let's pray for our fellow brothers and sisters around the world who are being persecuted daily.
I am sure God will bless us all.
Lema.

Is There a Mansion in Heaven for You?
One of these days, if you're faithful, you'll own a mansion that won't cost you anything!--No rent or expenses! Jesus said, "In My Father's House are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you." (Jn.14:2)--And your rewards There will be proportioned according to your works here. Whatever you have There, you will have already sent ahead in the way of souls won, victories won, battles won & rewards won for your service here! It's like the well-known tale about the rich woman being led to her Heavenly Home by an Angel: They walked past many beautiful mansions where other Christians were living, until finally they got to a poor section of shanties, & the Angel led her through a gate into the yard of a tiny hut. "What's the big idea?" she said, "I'm used to very fine living!" "Well," the Angel answered, "the abodes up here are built of what each person sends on before, & this is all you sent!"--Whereas others had sacrificed & lived their whole lives for the Lord & helped many others, & great was their reward in Heaven! So just be faithful, & one day you'll find that whatever you've paid here is not worthy to be compared with the glory to be revealed there in that Heavenly place that He's gone to prepare!
KUKAMATWA KWA VIONGOZI WA SERIKALI TANZANIA WAKRISTO TUFANYE NINI?
Kama watu wa Mungu hebu tushauriane hapa Mlimani Sayuni ili tujue tunaipekaje nchi yetu TANZANIA mbele za Baba yetu aliye mbinguni.

UPDATE–China Continues Harassing Pastor Zhang “Bike” Mingxuan’s Family – China Aid AssociationPastor Zhang “Bike” Mingxuan and his family continue to face pressure from China’s Public Security Bureau (PSB) officials, China Aid Association reported. Zhang Jian, Bike’s son who was brutally beaten by PSB officers on Oct. 16, was threatened with imprisonment unless he agreed to sign a document stating that his injuries were minor. Fearing separation from his wife and 1-year-old son, Jian consented. CAA added that Pastor Zhang, who had been missing since the attack on his son, contacted Jian by telephone on Oct. 22. He confirmed that he is being detained but was unable to give the details of his detention. Pastor Zhang's wife, Xie Fenglan, and sister have been placed under “soft detention” in a PSB-operated Beijing hotel. Their cell phones have been confiscated and their travel restricted. Pray for protection for this family and its release from PSB surveillance. Ask God to encourage Pastor Zhang and for believers in China to continue serving the Lord with courage

Stay in God's Will!
The safest place in the World for you is in the center of God's Will. No matter where you are, or how you are, or what you are, or what's against you, the Lord will keep you if you are in the center of His Will! It's a charmed circle where you live a charmed life. "The Name of the Lord is a strong tower: The righteous runneth into it, & is safe." (Pro.18:10)So don't get disobedient, don't run outside of God's Will & His protection. Walk within the Will of God, or Satan may be allowed to give you problems. You can suffer sometimes for your sins, your carelessness, prayerlessness, haste & disobedience to the Lord. In a sense, He is bound by His Own rules, & His Own laws, & He can't protect you when you violate the rules! When you're out of His Will He may even allow you to fall prey to the snares of the Enemy.Help us to stay close to You, Jesus, in the center of Thy Will, then we know we're in the center of Thy provision & protection & blessing & usefulness, where we have nothing to worry about. We can trust You utterly by faith because we know we're being obedient & doing Thy Will.
God bless you,
Lema.
Please let's pray for our persecuted brothers and sistes in faith
Shalom!
Please and please let's say a prayer for these our fellows here;

The gunmen shot one of the sisters as she was waiting for a bus outside their home. They then stormed into the home, killed the other sister and injured their mother. Kurudi kwa YESU(The coming of JESUS)
In this series,I will be sharing with you about the second coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.
The Bible named the day of the coming of Christ as the day of the Christ(some translation says the day of the Lord..but it should be the day of Christ because there is difference between these two days..when I get time I will clearly explain to you;2Thesalonians 2:2-3).
The day will not come unless the son of evil, the man of sin,the falling away, the anti-christ,the beast is reveled first. After this man of sin,the anti-christ, is reveled here on earth then Christ will come to take us and we will meet Him on the air and go with Him to heaven.Who is this man of sin?first it should be noted that this is the mortal man who will rule the world with signs and wonders(2Thesalonias2:9 " The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders"),But know one thing that this man,the beast can not start working while the Church (born-again people) is on this planet earth, the Bible says the Church must be taken away first to heaven and this man of sin can start working.(2Thesalonianis 2:6-7 "6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. ").After the departure of the Church from the earth then this man will start working and rule the world for 7 years.During that time no man kind will be allowed to make any transaction without the mark of these beast, the man of sin.(Revelation 13:16-19; 16He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.) And his number is 666,You should note here that this number will be in use soon after the Church is taken away from earth. There are some people who are saying that the church will be here during that reign of the anti-christ but that is wrong concept and the Bible is telling us cleary that the beast will not start operating because the Church is refraining him, even though the spirit of anti-christ is already at work even now but he himself is not at work because the Holy Spirit is hovering the Church here on earth and when the Holy Spirit move away from earth to heaven then He must move with the Church and thus the beast will start operating.
God bless you for today but dont miss tommorow for more detailed good news about the coming of Christ. Here will answer the questions like the Church and the great tribulation, the second and third coming of Jesus Christ, the Lord Supper, the Millenium, the great judgement of God,the eternal fire, and the eternity with God.
If you are saying in your heart that bro' Mtade, this message has touched my heart and I want to meet Jesus on the air when He comes for the second time or even if I die I want to go to heaven, please say this prayer with me:
LORD JESUS,
I COME BEFORE YOU,
I AM A SINNER AND I CANNOT HELP MYSELF,
PLEASE FORGIVE ME AND CLEANSE ME FROM ALL MY SINS,
REMOVE MY NAME FROM THE BOOK OF GREAT AWESOME JUDGEMENT,
WRITE MY NAME IN THE BOOK LIFE,
HELP ME TO LIVE HOLY LIFE EVERYDAY UNTIL I MEET YOU ON THE AIR.
THANK YOU FOR FORGIVING ME,
I AM NOW BORN AGAIN BY YOUR HOLY SPIRIT,
IN JESUS NAME
AMEN.
If you have prayed this prayer with me ,please write to me at miwlc@yahoo.com so that I can help you next steps to take after your golden decision.

Kurudi kwa YESU (The coming of Lord JESUS)
Hebu soma hii habari kwa makini afu uitafakari kabla hatujaanza somo letu kuhusu kuja kwa Bwana wetu Yesu na kutuchukua sisi tuliomwamini kwenda naye mbinguni kuishi milele.
One thing I want you to put in your mind is that..the second coming of Jesus is real and will soon happen at the time that you do not expect.Behold He is coming on the clouds ...are you ready to meet Him on the air?
2 Wathesalonike 2:1-
Simameni Imara.
2 Thessalonians 2
1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ[a] had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin[b] is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God[c] in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He[d] who now restrains will do so until He[e] is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness

MAOMBO KWA AJILI YA TANZANIA: MAOMBI YA WANASAYUNI :LEO TUPO SIKU YA 21
TUSOME SEHEMU YA MAOMBI HAYA YA DANIEL YA SIKU 21 YALIYOBADILISHA MUELEKEO WA TAIFA LA ISRAEL ...HAKIKA ISRAEL ILIBADILIKA NA DANIEL ALIPOKEA MAJIBU YA MAOMBI YAKE BAADA YA SIKU 21.
3 So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.
4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, 5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. 6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
7 "Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame—the men of Judah and people of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you. 8 O LORD, we and our kings, our princes and our fathers are covered with shame because we have sinned against you. 9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him; 10 we have not obeyed the LORD our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets. 11 All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you. "Therefore the curses and sworn judgments written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against you. 12 You have fulfilled the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us great disaster. Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem. 13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. 14 The LORD did not hesitate to bring the disaster upon us, for the LORD our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him.
15 "Now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. 16 O Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy hill. Our sins and the iniquities of our fathers have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn to all those around us.
17 "Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, O Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. 19 O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name."
20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill- 21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. 23 As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the message and understand the vision:
2NYAKATI 7:14

Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) charter
YES WE CAN...Ann Nixon Cooper
'She was born just a generation past slavery, a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky, when someone like her couldn’t vote for two reasons - because she was a woman and because of the colour of her skin,' he said.
'And tonight, I think about all that she’s seen throughout her century in America - the heartache and the hope, the struggle and the progress, the times we were told that we can’t, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: "Yes we can."'
Mrs Cooper has seen 18 presidents come and go and outlived most of them, but, like all black Americans, she had to wait until 1965 to gain the right to vote - when she was 63.
Born Ann Louise Nixon on January 9 1902 in Shelbyville, Tennessee, she was one of six siblings. When her mother died the brothers and sisters were split up, and she was taken in by an aunt who worked as a servant for wealthy whites.
When she was 20 she married dentist Albert Cooper and the couple moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where they raised four children, of whom only a daughter of 83 survives.
As her husband built a successful practice, Mrs Cooper dedicated her energy to charity work for the black community and became a renowned activist and socialite hosting glittering parties for good causes - singer Nat King Cole even dropped by her house.
This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight's about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta.
She's a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing: Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons — because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.
And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America — the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.
At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can. When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs, a new sense of common purpose.
Yes we can.
AUDIENCE: Yes we can.
OBAMA: When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.
AUDIENCE: Yes we can.
OBAMA: She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that We Shall Overcome. Yes we can.
AUDIENCE: Yes we can.
OBAMA: A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change.Yes we can.
AUDIENCE: Yes we can.
OBAMA: America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves — if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?
This is our chance to answer that call.
This is our moment.

Barack Obama elected 44th president
A crowd of 125,000 people jammed Grant Park in Chicago, where Obama addressed the nation for the first time as its president-elect at midnight ET. Hundreds of thousands more — Mayor Richard Daley said he would not be surprised if a million Chicagoans jammed the streets — watched on a large television screen outside the park.
“If there is anyone out there who doubts that America is a place where anything is possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer,” Obama declared. “It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America,” he said to a long roar.
McCain notes history in the makingObama congratulated his opponent, Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, for his “unimaginable” service to the United States, first as a prisoner of war for 5½ years in North Vietnam and then for nearly three decades in Congress.
McCain called Obama to offer his congratulations at 11 p.m. ET, Obama’s chief spokesman, Robert Gibbs, told NBC News. Obama thanked McCain for his “class and honor” during the campaign and said he was eager to sit down and talk about how the two of them could work together.
Barack Obama tells more than 125,000 people in Chicago, “If there's anybody out there who still questions ... the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”
Saying, “The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly,” McCain told supporters in Phoenix that he “recognized the special significance” Obama’s victory had for African-Americans.
“We both recognize that though we have come a long way from the old injustices that once stained our nation’s reputation and denied some Americans the full blessings of American citizenship, the memory of them still have the power to wound,” McCain said.
“Let there be no reason for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth,” said McCain, who pledged his support and help for the new president.
President Bush called to congratulate Obama and promise a smooth transition of power on Jan. 20, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
“Mr. President-elect, congratulations to you. What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters,” said Bush, who invited Obama and his family to visit the White House as soon as it was convenient.
The president also called McCain to say that he was proud of the senator’s efforts and that he was “sorry it didn’t work out.”
“You didn’t leave anything on the playing field,” Bush said.

Nehemiah: Lessons In Rebuilding -2
Lesson 2: Get Up And Pray
There’s a scene in the middle of the classic Christmas movie “It’s A Wonderful Life” that I hardly noticed in all the years that I’ve watched it--until I became a Christian, that is. The message of the movie is so powerful, I missed the fact that the whole chain of events that takes place throughout the movie starts with a prayer.
When George Bailey, the character played by Jimmy Stewart, finds himself at a loss for what to do next, he prays:
“God . . . God . . . Dear Father in Heaven, I’m not a praying man, but if You’re up there and You can hear me, show me the way. I’m at the end of my rope. Show me the way, God.”
And God does.
There’s a time to weep over the losses in your life, but there’s also a time to move forward. And the best way to move forward is to get up and pray. Although you may feel like George Bailey at times, not even sure if God’s there and listening at all, I assure you He is. God is there and God does care. Knowing that can make all the difference in your prayers.
If you think of prayer as just a time to be alone, or a time to talk to yourself and try to work things out on your own, then you may not have much incentive to pray at all. But if you truly believe that God is there, and that when you talk, He listens--and responds--then turning to prayer takes on a whole new meaning.
When the prophet Nehemiah suffered a great loss in his life, he sat down and wept, but the next thing he did was to get up and pray. Listen to the words of Nehemiah, and his prayer, as recorded in Nehemiah chapter 1:
“When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Then I said:
‘O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love Him and obey His commands, let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer Your servant is praying before You day and night for Your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house, have committed against You. We have acted very wickedly toward You. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws You gave Your servant Moses.
‘Remember the instruction You gave Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for My Name.’
‘They are Your servants and Your people, whom You redeemed by Your great strength and Your mighty hand. O Lord, let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of this Your servant and to the prayer of Your servants who delight in revering Your name. Give Your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man’” (Nehemiah 1:4-11).
Nehemiah knew that God was there, that God was listening, and that God knew best what to do next. Nehemiah mourned, fasted and prayed. He confessed his own sins, as well as those of his countrymen. And he reminded himself--and God--of God’s promises, asking for God’s favor as he moved forward.
I don’t know whether you’re more like George Bailey, who didn’t think of himself as a praying man, or more like Nehemiah, who prayed regularly, or somewhere in between. But I do know that whoever you are, you can pray to your Father in heaven and He will hear you--and He will respond. That prayer could very well be the one that starts the whole chain of events of the rest of your life.
Come to God today and pray, even if it’s as simple as saying, “I’m at the end of my rope. Show me the way, God.” And He will.
Let’s pray...
Father, I’m at the end of my rope and I don’t know what to do next. I confess my sins to you. Show me the way, Lord, and help me to know what to do next. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I hope this is a blessing to you,God bless you richly.
Biblia inakataa. Sasa ukisoma ile Mwanzo unaweza ukafikiri ni wanaume tu wakioa ndio wanatakiwa watoke, waachane na wazazi wao, lakini Zaburi 45:10,11 inatuambia wazi kabisa, inasema, “Sikia, binti, utazame, utege sikio lako, Uwasahau watu wako na nyumba ya baba yako. Naye Mfalme atautamani uzuri wako, Maana ndiye bwana wako, nawe umsujudie”.
Mbarikiwe,
Team at Sayuni.

Kenya prays for Barack Obama
Sarah Palin, the vice presidential candidate on the rival Republican ticket, famously received a blessing earlier this year in Alaska from a visiting Kenyan pastor who claims special powers against witchcraft.
But two days before the crucial vote, Obama received the less controversial backing of thousands of church-goers in Kisumu and the surrounding region, where his 86-year-old grandmother still lives.
At Kisumu's Baptist Church, dozens of Christian faithful sang and prayed for Obama, who has become the East African nation's favourite son and whose White House bid has triggered a wave of enthusiasm and seen support groups crop up all over Kenya.
Raising their hands in the air, grimacing worshippers weaved their prayers into a chorus over keyboard tunes belting through a home-made woofer.
"We put Barack Obama in your hands. It is you who chooses leaders, help him in the elections so that he can win," prayed Reverend Samson Otieno, likening the contest between Obama and Republican candidate John McCain to the biblical duel between David and Goliath.
"We will give you thanks and praise when he wins," Otieno said.
"I am praying the will of God be done so that people do not despise Africans," said Olivia Achieng, sweat pearling on her forehead, after an energetic prayer for her favourite candidate.
Other special prayer sessions were scheduled across the western Kenyan region in the final run-up to Tuesday's vote.

Sunday Adelaja: A man who changed soviet union
That was in 1986, when millions of Soviet peoples lived under the shadow of communism. The young Sunday had no idea that communism denied God's existence when he arrived in Minsk, Belarus. "I was so frustrated when I couldn't go to church—they said there's no church here," he says.
Sunday, 38, now leads what may be Europe's largest church, the 30,000-member Embassy of the Blessed King-dom of God for all Nations in Kiev, Ukraine. Started in 1994 among drug addicts and alcoholics, the Pentecostal church expanded rapidly.
Students, housewives, former Mafia members, wealthy businessmen, and powerful politicians pack a sports stadium for Sunday worship. Behind the main platform where Pastor Sunday preaches, rock music faintly pulsates—Ukraine's top athletes are pumping iron in the adjacent weight room. The beat doesn't distract the clapping, singing, and swaying men, women, and children focused on praising God. And they're not alone; thousands of other church members worship at 30 additional locations throughout Kiev. They're also changing the nation's social and political landscape.
A wilderness babySunday began his journey in the Soviet Union as a "wilderness baby" whose faith matured quietly behind the Iron Curtain, akin to Moses's years of spiritual growth in the Egyptian desert. He quickly learned to survive at the state university by hiding his faith. He joined six other foreign students who secretly worshiped together.
After praying earnestly for several weeks, Sunday first glimpsed God's purpose in bringing him to the Soviet Union. He read in Isaiah 61, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to preach good news to the poor." God revealed to Sunday that crowds of Europeans would respond to his preaching.
For six years, Sunday struggled to trust God's plan. "I pretended I was asleep and prayed under my blanket. I had to have my morning devotions in the bathroom," he says.
When Sunday dared to hang a picture of Jesus in his dorm room, his roommate reported him. The local communist party leader and a professor banged on his door, demanding he take down the picture. They threatened to send him back to Africa. "The Lord spoke to me and said, 'Don't worry about removing the picture; just make sure they don't remove me from your heart,'" he says.
Sunday studied diligently and became a top student. "God used that time to train me, to help me master the language and understand European people," he says. He also started leading his student fellowship—more training ground for what lay ahead.
When Mikhail Gorbachev began opening the Soviet Union to the West, Sunday started his preaching career. On weekends, he and other local Christians visited churches and led evangelistic campaigns in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltics, and Belarus. But traveling without a visa was illegal for a foreigner, and in 1993 Sunday was caught and expelled from Belarus.
Mega-visionJust then, he was invited to work for Ukraine's first commercial TV station, which he quickly accepted. His fiancée, Bose, a Nigerian student whom he'd met in Russia, agreed to join him there.
After only a year in Kiev, Sunday felt God nudging him to begin a church, but he resisted. Each time he'd planted a church before, God had said, "Leave it; give it to the local people." Afraid of being separated from another church he'd birthed, Sunday asked God why he should start again.
"God said, 'I want you to raise up a country of strong men and women to reach other countries, especially where the Soviet Union has been known to send death, destruction, and tears. Instead, I want to use the Soviet people to bring healing, health, and the Good News,'" Sunday says.
Despite his doubts, and encouraged by Bose's support, Sunday obeyed God. In the first few months, his attempts were fruitless. "I knew people were thinking, You're black, you have an accent, you've come from an uncivilized place, so who are you to talk?" Desperate, he cried out to God. Then he realized that Jesus preached to society's weak and outcast.
Drug addicts, alcoholics, and homeless people joined his Bible study and found new life in Christ. Their families took notice of the radical changes and became believers too. By 1997, 3,000 people were worshiping in Sunday's church. That's when the government took notice and trouble began.
"They said, 'Sunday is not a pastor. He's using drugs, black magic, and hypnotizing these people,'" he says. The police seized his passport and revoked his official permission to preach as a foreigner. During the next several years, Sunday battled 22 lawsuits.
Church members began 40 days of fasting and prayer. Their numbers continued to increase despite Sunday's trials. "God began to have mercy on us and send influential politicians to our church," he says. Fifty members of the nation's Supreme Council (legislature) pledged their support in a letter to the president and attorney general. All court cases were decided in his favor.
Plugged into GodPastor Sunday delivers a consistent message, calling people to plug into God's power: "God saved you so that you can transform your world—you are a world-changer." This belief in personal potential has mobilized his congregation.
In Ukraine's peaceful Orange Revolution last winter, more than 4,000 Embassy of God members prayed and fasted in the 12-day standoff before the first presidential runoff was judged invalid. They also donated food, warm clothing, and tents to the thousands of demonstrators camped in Kiev's freezing Independence Square.
Results from the second runoff infused Ukrainians with new hope. In January, President Viktor Yushchenko shocked the nation by starting his first day in office with public prayer, kneeling before an altar with his wife and children. Christians are delighted with Yushchenko's unprecedented stand against corruption and his appointing believers as government ministers.
"We know that the changes taking place here in Ukraine are born from above," Sunday says.
Church members are following their pastor's example to carry the Good News across cultural barriers. They've planted more than 300 churches in 30-plus countries, including the United States, Holland, Israel, Singapore, and South Africa. Modeling Sunday's original strategy, they open drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers before planting a church.
The strength of Embassy of God churches lies in tapping members' talents and developing leadership potential. This people power in Kiev alone has resulted in 300-plus outreach activities launched by church members, including a soup kitchen that feeds more than 2,000 people a day, a business training center, and a family counseling center.
"Pastor Sunday believes Christians have to affect society at a political, spiritual, and economic level. They've done this in Ukraine," says David Tinney, president of Family Aid International, a humanitarian aid group.
Despite his celebrity status in Ukraine, Sunday still endures racial slurs in public, but he seizes these opportunities for evangelism. "When people call me a monkey, I go and hug them and ask, 'Have you ever hugged a monkey before?' I make them laugh." He says these people may someday recognize true love, repent, and dedicate their lives to Christ. Several already have.
Pastor Sunday and his flock are inspiring evangelical leaders worldwide. Sunday's church is "the happiest in the world," says Pastor Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals. "After 70 years of being told that God was dead, this church is celebrating a living Lord. … They rejoice the way Christians worldwide should."
Sunday believes that Christianity in the developing world is often "more dedicated and radical for God" than in North America, and missions experts agree. Africans, Asians, and Latin Americans are obeying Christ's command to disciple the nations.
But the American church is still needed, Sunday says. "If a young man from Africa could build the largest church in Europe without money, Bible school, or seminary training, imagine the potential of a North American."
Since Jesus died a radical death for him, Sunday has pledged his own life in return: "I must give Him my best every day and every minute."
