Tukio hilo la kustaajabisha lilitokea hivi karibuni ambapo kijana huyo aliyetajwa kwa jina moja la Julius alijitosa kanisani hapo kujiokoa na umati wa watu uliokuwa ukimtuhumu kuwa ni mwizi.Shuhuda wetu aliyekuwa eneo la tukio ambaye pia ni muumini wa kanisa hilo alidai kuwa, wakiwa ibadani walishangaa kumuona Julius aliyedai kuwa ni muumini wa kanisa hilo akiingia na kumfuata madhabahuni mama Mchungaji, Zetumbi aliyekuwa akiongoza ibada.“Kila mtu alipigwa na butwaa, tukafikiri ni ibilisi kaingia kanisani, baada ya muda tukasikia mayowe ya watu wakihimiza atolewe ndani.“Jamaa naye alizidi kumsogelea mama mchungaji na kuomba asaidiwe, waumini nao wakawa wanatawanyika kukwepa aibu hiyo,” alisema muumini huyo aliyejitambulisha kwa jina la Zakayo.Aidha, Julius mwenyewe alikana kuhusika na wizi badala yake alidai kuwa yeye ni mkristo na alikuwa akielekea kanisani asubuhi hiyo.Akijitetea na tuhuma hizo za wizi Julius alidai kuwa, wakati akielekea ibadani alikutana na vibaka ambao walimpora, kumvua nguo kisha kumpigia mayowe ya mwizi.Julius aliongeza kwamba, hakuwa na njia ya kufanya baada ya tukio hilo zaidi ya kuingia kanisani humo akiwa mtupu kujiokoa asitolewe roho.“Nishaibiwa na kusingiziwa kuwa ni mwizi, watu wameanza kunifukuza na kunipiga, nifanyeje, imebidi nijisalimishe kwa Mungu,” alisikika Julius akijitetea.Licha kijana huyo kujitetea, kundi la watu waliokuwa mlangoni walizidi kusisitiza kuwa alikuwa ni kibaka mzoefu na kutaka atolewe ndani ili wamuue.Akielezea tukio hilo Mama Zetumbi ambaye ni Mchungaji wa kanisa hilo alisema, kijana yule alikimbilia kanisani kujiokoa lakini akasema hana ushahidi kama ni mwizi au la!“Sisi ni watu wa Mungu hatukumhukumu, tulimsadia na kumwachia aende polisi, hatuna la zaidi,” alisema Mama Mchungaji.

Mahakama ya kadhi...kesi ya Mtikila yatupwa

Mahakama Kuu Kanda ya Dar es Salaam, imetupilia mbali ombi la Mchungaji Christopher Mtikila la kupinga kuanzishwa kwa Mahakama ya Kadhi.

Ombi hilo lilitupiliwa mbali jana kufuatia Mchungaji Mtikila kushindwa kuwasilisha majibu ya pingamizi la awali kutoka kwa Mwanasheria Mkuu wa Serikali la kutaka kesi hiyo ifutwe. Uamuzi huo ulitolewa na jopo la Majaji watatu wa Mahakama Kuu, wakiongozwa na Jaji Salum Masati. Majaji wengine walikuwa ni Robert Makaramba na Aisha Nyerere.

Mchungaji Mtikila aliiomba Mahakama kumpa muda wa kuwasilisha majibu na kwamba alikuwa hana fedha za kuajiri mawakili kwa sababu alihitaji Sh. milioni 40 za kuendeshea kesi hiyo.

Hiyo ni kusema kuwa kwa sasa hakuna kesi ya kupinga uanzishwaji wa mahakama hiyo ambayo imo kwenye ilani ya uchaguzi wa chama cha mapinduzi ya mwaka 2005 na inatakiwa iwe imetekelezwa ifikapo mwaka 2010.

Wapo wapi maaskofu wetu, wachungaji, wainjilisti manabii,mitume na waalimu kulisemea suala hili.Je nafasi ya kanisa katika hili ipo wapi? Maombi ndio silaha yetu kuu katika kurekebisha mambo ambayo hayaendi ipasavyo.Lakini hatua za kisheria za kulinda katiba ya nchi ni vyema zikafuatwa maana katiba inalihusu na kanisa pia.

And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the horn, and the mountain smoking." Thus the book of Exodus describes the impressive moment of the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.

The "perceiving of the voices" has been interpreted endlessly since these words were first written. When Professor Benny Shanon, professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, reads the verse, he recalls a powerful hallucinatory experience he had when he visited the Amazon and drank a potion made from a plant called ayahuasca

"One of the things that happens when you drink the potion is a visual experience created via sounds," he says.

Shanon presents a provocative theory in an article published this week in the philosophy journal Time and Mind. The religious ceremonies of the Israelites included the use of psychotropic materials that can found in the Negev and Sinai, he says.

"I have no direct proof of this interpretation," and such proof cannot be expected, he says. However, "it seems logical that something was altered in people's consciousness. There are other stories in the Bible that mention the use of plants: for example, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden."

Shanon, former head of the Hebrew University psychology department, said his first experience with ayahuasca was in 1991 when he was invited to a religious ceremony in the northern Amazon in 1991 in Brazil. "I experienced visions that had spiritual-religious connotations," he says.

Since that time, he has used it hundreds of times, and has published a book about the plant. "Hypotheses have been around for 20 years connecting the beginning of religions with psychoactive materials," Shanon says.

He believes the Israelites used two plants in Sinai and the Negev: one of them is wild rue, a hallucinogen used by the Bedoin to this day. However this plant is not identified with any plant mentioned in the Bible. The acacia tree also has psychedelic properties, Shanon says, which the Israelites could have used. The acacia is mentioned frequently in the Bible, and was the type of wood of which the Ark of the Covenant was made.

According to Shanon, he drank a potion prepared from a species of acacia while he was in South America, which caused similar experiences to those produced by the ayahuasca. Shanon also sees signs of a hallucinogenic vision in the story of the burning bush. "Moses 'looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed,'" Shanon quotes from Exodus 3:2. Time passes differently when under the influence of the plant, he notes. "That's why Moses thought the bush was not consumed. It should have been burned in the time he thought had passed. And in that time, he heard God speaking to him." "But not everyone who uses a plant like this brings the Torah," Shanon concedes. "For that, you have to be Moses."

South Africans protest over miniskirt attack!!

Hundreds of South African women have marched to a Johannesburg taxi rank, where a woman was sexually assaulted for wearing a miniskirt.

Nwabisa Ngcukana, 25, returned to where she was allegedly attacked by a group of taxi-drivers and street hawkers, who said she was indecently dressed.

"I came here to show the guys that I'm not scared of them - to face my demons," she told the BBC.

The taxi drivers shouted insults at the women, some of whom wore miniskirts. Some shouted that South African women were being given too many rights. The leaders of the Noord Street taxi rank had to urge the drivers to show restraint.

Traditional
Police on horseback were on hand to keep the rival groups apart. There were angry scenes on Friday at a similar march, when both women and taxi-drivers removed their clothes.

The case has caused a huge row over women's rights and public decency. Passers-by reportedly laughed and cheered when Ms Ngcukana was assaulted last month.

"What we want to highlight is that women have rights - they have the right to choose what to wear," said Nonhlanhla Mokeona from the People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa) organisation.

She urged men to take part in the protest, to show they supported women's rights. During Friday's march, some of the women exposed their thighs and breasts - a traditional form of protest in Africa amongst those who consider themselves powerless.

A group of taxi-drivers called the protesters "prostitutes" and then some also pulled down their trousers to show their buttocks.

The authorities have appealed to the taxi-drivers' association to help find those who allegedly assaulted Ms Ngcukana and other women in recent weeks. While some South Africans have said it is against local culture for women to wear miniskirts, the National House of Traditional Leaders last week said that women often wore short skirts in traditional ceremonies.

Wapo waliosema kuwa kuunda tume hiyo ni makosa kwa kuwa ni kinyume na maandiko matakatifu ya Biblia.Wapo wale walioiunga mkono kuwa tume hiyo imeundwa kikibiblia na kuwa itasaidia kudhibiti kuibuka kwa imani potofu hasa huduma za maombezi zinazoibuka kila kukicha.

Kumekuwepo na maneno ya chini kwa chini yanayoendelea yakizitaja baadhi ya imani hapa nchini kuwa zipo kwenye black list ya tume hiyo.

CHINA 21 House Church Leaders Simultaneously Sentenced to Labor Camp - China Aid AssociationChina Aid Association (CAA)
reports 21 senior house church leaders were recently simultaneously sentenced to a labor camp by the Linyi City Re-education Through Labor Commission. According to CAA, "The leaders were detained on December 7, 2007 when they gathered for leadership training with 249 other leaders in Hedong district, Linyi city, Shandong province. After paying fines and finishing detention ranging from a few days to a few weeks, 249 leaders were released. The 21 most senior leaders were sentenced to three years to one year and three months." The Public Security Bureau has accused and labeled the house church leaders as "evil cult" members. Of the 21 leaders sent to the labor camp, 12 are men and four are women. Pray for these believers and their families during this difficult time. Ask God to protect and encourage them. Pray they will be a good witness of Christ's love to other prisoners and their captors. Psalm 27:1

SRI LANKA Pastor Killed, Wife in Seriously Injured in Attack -
National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri LankaOn February 17, Pastor Neil Edirisinghe, of the House Church Foundation, was gunned down by two assailants outside his home in Ampara, Sri Lanka. According to a report by the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL), "Pastor Edirisinghe was engaged in the Lord's ministry in Ampara for many years. The attackers also shot his wife in the stomach. At last report, she was in the hospital in critical condition. Their two-year-old son who received a minor injury in the attack is also suffering from trauma." NCEASL added the motive for the attacks was believed to be in response to Pastor Edirisinghe's ministry. The Voice of the Martyrs is assisting the family during this difficult time. Pray for peace and comfort for Pastor Edirisinghe's family. Pray for a speedy recovery for his wife and child and for them to rely on the great Comforter, the Holy Spirit. Isaiah 40:31, Psalm 107:2

GAZA YMCA Library Bombed - VOM SourcesOn February 16,
unidentified assailants bombed the library of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) compound in the Shajaiyeh neighborhood of Gaza city. According to VOM sources, shortly after midnight, at least 12 gunmen entered the YMCA compound and kidnapped two guards at gunpoint after asking them why they worked for "infidels." The men stormed the building and detonated two homemade explosive devices inside the library. All 8,000 books in the library were destroyed and the floor, walls and ceiling were damaged. The attackers stole computers and other equipment from other YMCA offices. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. . However, sources in Gaza reportedly believe that the perpetrators were Muslim militants acting in response to the reproduction of cartoons "ridiculing" Muhammad in a number of Danish newspapers last week. Praise God no one was injured in this attack. Ask God to protect and give wisdom to believers in Gaza. Pray the attackers will come into contact with the grace and love of Jesus Christ. Joshua 1:9

ETHIOPIA Christian Couple Beaten and Chased From Mosque - VOM Sources
On February 10, Muslin Christian converts, Jemmal Abdo and his wife, were beaten and chased out from a mosque where they both worked in the capital city of Addis Ababa. According to The Voice of the Martyrs contacts, "Jemmal and his wife accepted Christ two months ago. Soon after their conversion Jemmal's friend saw him talking with Christians and told the imam of the mosque. Jemmal and his wife were interrogated in the mosque during a meeting called by Muslim leaders in an attempt to persuade the couple to recant their faith. The couple refused to do so, even after the leaders offered them higher positions and salaries if they denied Christ. The couple was beaten and dragged out of the mosque." Jemmal and his wife were able to flee to a new location for safety. Pray for the speedy recovery for Jemmal and his wife, who were injured in the attack. Je! Ni Sahihi kwa Mkristo Kujihusiha na Mazoezi ya Viungo au Kushiriki Michezo?

Shalom watu wa Mungu!

Kwa sababu ni fani yangu, nimeonelea leo niwashirikishe umuhimu wa mazoezi ya viungo kwa mwili wa binadamu. Naandika haya kwa makusudi kamili nikijua kwamba wengi hasa wa jamii ya waaminio wa ki-Tanzania huona ni kama kupoa kiroho kwa mpendwa kushiriki katika mazoezi ya viungo, kucheza mpira, riadha, kuogelea, na michezo mingineyo inayohusisha mjongeo wa viungo vya mwili (body movements). Biblia inaeleza katika kitabu cha 1Timotheo 4:8 "... Kwa maana kujizoeza kupata nguvu za mwili kwafaa kidogo, lakini utauwa hufaa kwa mambo yote..." Huo mstari unaweka bayana kwamba mazoezi yanafaa japo ni kwa kiwango fulani-HAUKATAZI mazoezi ya mwili.Kwa kuonesha kwamba mazoezi ni muhimu na hata wakati fulani kushiriki kwenye mashindano ya michezo, Paul anasisitiza kwa kutolea mfano 1 Wakorintho 9:24-27 "... Je! Hamjui ya kuwa wale washindanao kwa kupiga mbio, hupiga mbio wote, lakini apokeaye tuzo ni mmoja?..." Na kila ashindanaye katika michezo hujizuia katika yote ........" Paul anajiringanisha kama mwanariadha mahali hapo." Anaonesha pia kwamba katika michezo zipo sheria zake na kanuni za kufuata ili kuweza kufikia lengo (2 Timothy 2:5). Kana kwamba haitoshi, Paul anaonesha pia hata michezo ya kukabiliana ana kwa ana (combat sports) kwamba nae yupo katika kupiga ngumi na si kama apigaye hewa (2 Timothy 4:7).

Kwa vielelezo hivyo ni dhahiri kabisa hakuna dhambi ndani yake kwa mtu wa Mungu kushiriki kwenye michezo au mazoezi ya mwili cha msingi ni kuwa na dhamiri na nia njema ya kwa nini unafanya hivyo. Ni agizo la Mungu kwamba hekalu lake litunzwe hii sio kiroho tu hata katika utu wa nje ni muhimu pia (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Efeso 5:29 - yazungumzia juu ya matunzo ya mwili, pia Biblia inakataza ulafi naam hata inafikia hatua ya kusema ujitie kisu kooni kama wewe ni mlafi Mithali 23:2, kuwa makini hapa!!! Kwa ujumla twaweza sema biblia inakazia juu ya suala la mtu kuitunza afya ya mwili wake.

Kwa mtazamo huo hapo juu, nikirejea kwenye umuhimu wa michezo au mazoezi ya mwili, ziko faida lukuki ndani yake. Tafiti nyingi zimefanyika na karibu zote zinaonesha mtazamo chanya juu ya umuhimu wa michezo na mazoezi kwa mwili wa mwanadamu. Michezo au mazoezi ya mwili yana faida zifuatazo:

1. Hupunguza uwezekano wa kupatwa na magonja ya moyo na kifo kutokana na magonja hayo.

2. Hupunguza uwezekano wa kupata shinikizo la damu

3. Hupunguza mafuta yaliyo hatari kwa mwili wako katika damu (blood cholesterol and triglycerides) na kuachilia yale yaliyo salama tu (HDL - or good cholesterol).

4. Hupunguza uwezekano wa kupatwa na mgandamizo mkubwa wa damu (HBP) na kushusha kwa wale walio nao tayari (hypertension)

5. Hupunguza uwezekano wa kupatwa na ugonjwa wa kisukari (Diabetes mellitus type 2DM)

6. Inapunguza uwezekano wa kupata kansa ya utumbo mpana

7. Husaidia katika kufikia na kutunza kiwango cha uzito maridhawa wa mwili.

8. Hupunguza hisia za mtindio wa mawazo na tashwishwi

9. Huimarisha hali njema ya kisaikolojia na kupunguza hisia za msongo

10. Hujenga na kuimarisha mifupa, viungo na misuli za mwili

11. Hupunguza na ama kuondoa tatizo la unene (Obesity)

12. Kwa wazee huwafanya kuwa imara na uwezo wa kudhibiti miili yao kutokana na kuanguka au kuchoka kwa haraka.

Kwa faida hizo na nyingine nyingi ambazo sijazitaja upo uwezekano kabisa wa mtu wa Mungu kuongeza siku zako za kuishi hapa duniani ambayo kwa hakika ni ahadi ya Mungu, na hakuwa mjinga anaposema "...siku zako zipate kuwa nyingi katika nchi upewayo na bwana Mungu wako..." (Kutoka 20:12). Wengi wetu kwa kutokushiriki katika mazoezi japo kidogo tumeiharibu miili yetu na kuwa na vitambi visivyokuwa na sababu na miili ambayo ni goigoi ambayo hata imekua kizingiti kwa kazi ya Mungu. Ni kweli yapo magonjwa lakini si yote ni shetani, mengine ni uzembe wetu tu wenyewe (Hosea 4:6).

Kanisa ambalo kimsingi ni eneo la kuwajenga watu kiimani na kuwasogeza kwa Mungu limesahau na kuiweka nyuma habari ya mafundisho ya mazoezi ya miili kwa washirika wake. Eneo hili likitumika vema, laweza hata kuwa ni eneo la injili ya kuwaleta watu kwa Yesu! Fikiria umeanzisha timu ya mpira iko daraja la kwanza, na slogan au moto wenu unakuwa Yesu Ni Mwokozi kila muingiapo uwanjani, unafikiri ni watu wangapi watakuwa wamefikiwa na ujumbe huu kwa msimu mmoja tu wa ligi? au kanisa likiwa na ukumbi wa kufanyia mazoezi Gymn au likianzisha aerobic fitness centre ni watu wangapi watakuwa wakihudumiwa hapo kwa mazoezi hayo na pia kuipata injili kwani hazitapigwa nyimbo za duniani bali ni nyimbo za kumtukuza Yesu na hata ikibidi kabla na baada ya mazoezi mwaweza weka utaratibu wa kuwa na maombi. Yote haya ni katika kuujenga mwili na ufalme wa Mungu! Yatosha kwa leo!!!!!

ILIWEZEKANAJE YONA KUKAA TUMBONI MWA SAMAKI KWA SIKU TATU?

Yawezekana kabisa ukawa una maswali mengi juu ya uwezekano kwamba Yona yule aliyetumwa kuhubiri Ninawi aliweza wezaje kukaa ndani ya tumbo la samaki pasipo kumeng’enywa kama vyakula vingine kwa siku tatu? Wanasayansi wanajaribu kufafanua namna ambavyo jambo hilo linawezekana na hivyo kuthibitisha kwamba Mungu wetu yu hai na anaweza kufanya mambo makubwa na ya ajabu.

Ukiaacha ya Yona zipo hadithi nyingi za watu waliomezwa na nyangumi na kisha kutoka wakiwa hai. Hizi sio hadithi za yule nondo mla watu wa ziwa Jipe bali ni kweli. Samaki mkubwa aitwaye "Sea Dog" (Carcharodon carcharias), anayepatikana kwenye maji ya bahari yenye mkondo joto huweza fikia urefu wa futi 40. Kunako miaka ya 1758 mvuvi mmoja bahari ya Mediterania aliwahi kuangukia baharini na kumezwa na samaki wa aina hii. Nahodha wa meli hiyo aliamuru bomu lipigwe kumlenga yule samaki. Matokeo yake ni kwamba yule samaki alimtapika mvuvi akiwa hai pasipo madhara yeyote. Maka 1891, James Bartley- mvuvi mwingine nae alimezwa na nyangumi katika visiwa vya Falkland na alikaa ndani ya nyangumi huyo kwa zaidi ya masaa 48 mpaka samaki huyo alipovuliwa na kupasuliwa. Ilimchukua wiki mbili kuweza kurejea katika hali yake ya kawaida lakini alipona. Wako watu wengi tu ambao wanatajwa kumezwa na kisha kutapikwa na nyangumi wakiwa hai.

Wataalamu wa mambo ya kale wanaandika kwamba Babeli ilikuwa na utamaduni wa kuamini Samaki Mtu (Nguva). Wanasema kunako mwanzoni mwa ustaarabu (civilization) Ukaldayo na Babeli uliamini sana maongozi ya mtu ambaye alikuwa nusu mtu nusu samaki aliyetoka majini. Katika siku za Yona, Ninawi nayo pia ilikuwa katika mfumo huo wa kiimani na waliamini katika roho iliyoleta ujumbe kupitia mtu aliyetokea/kuibuka kutoka majini/baharini kama nusu mtu, nusu samaki. Kwa maana hiyo basi hatushangai kuona hata ujumbe wa Yona ulipata kukubaliwa kwa haraka sana na watu wa Ninawi hata kutubu na kuziacha dhambi zao, na pia twasoma katika biblia kwamba Mungu aliusamehe mji wa Ninawi.

Tunaposoma leo katika biblia juu ya habari za Ninawi ni kama hadithi lakini ni mji uliokuwapo na wanasayani wanathibisha masalia yake kama yalivyochimbuliwa huko Babeli yajulikanayo kama "Neby Yunas," . Katika masalia hayo kuna kumbukumbu za jina la YONA (Yunas) jambo linalothibitisha hadithi hiyo ya Yona na pia waliweza kugundua masalia yaliyoharibika ya kasri ya mfalme wa Ninawi.

EAGT wafukuza wachungaji 32

Week hii kuna habari kuwa kanisa la Evengelist Assemblisies of God (EAGT) jimbo la kaskazini limewafukuza wachungaji wake 32 kwa kutotii maamuzi ya uongozi wa kanisa hilo ya kuwataka wachungaji wake wote kwenda Bible school wakasomee uchungaji.
Akizingumza kwa masikitiko makubwa mmoja wa wachungaji hao 32 waliofukuzwa kazi hiyo ya kulisha kondoo alisema kuwa anashangaa kuwa baada ya kulitumikia kanisa hilo kwa muda mrefu na kuisimamisha kazi ya Mungu kwa taabu na shida nyingi tangia kipindi cha migororo ya kanisa hilo na TAG, hivi sasa wao wanaonekana hawafai kumtumikia Mungu kwa sababu hawana elimu ya Bible school.
Kanisa la TAG(Tanzania Assembilies of God) lilikuwa na mgogoro wa muda mrefu tangia mwanzoni mwa miaka ya 80 hadi 90 katikati.
Kuanzia kipindi hicho kanisa la EAGT limekuwa likiwatumia wachungaji ambao hawajaenda Bible school huku likionyesha mafanikio makubwa sana kwa kuwa miongoni mwa makanisa yanayokuwa kwa kasi sana.
Hata hivyo uongozi wa juu wa kanisa la EAGT nchini umekuwa ukiwataka wachungaji wake waote wasioenda Bible school wahakikishe wanapata elimu hiyo ya Biblia na kutoa taarifa kuwa wasiokubali uamuzi huo watalazimika wataondolewa kwenye nafasi zao za uchungaji.

- In a world where cash is eliminated and every financial transaction is done electronically, not only the credit cards can be used, but also your micro chip number, retinal readers, voice recognition systems, signature dynamics...

I don’t mean that you should stop using your bank card(ATM card) since I myself am an expert in this online operations thru internet which is used much with this new technology(i.e. e-commerce, e-banking,e-business,e-government,e-election,e-hospital, etc) but use them with this knowledge that we are approaching the rapture more that we think.

Obama Says He's Christian, Not Muslim

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is stepping up his effort to correct the misconception that he's a Muslim.
Obama tried to set the record straight at a rally to kick off a weeklong campaign for the South Carolina primary coming up on Saturday.
Obama says he's been going to the same Christian church for almost 20 years. He says he was sworn into office using the family Bible. He says he repeats the pledge of allegiance to the United States flag in the Senate.
Obama is referring to a chain e-mail that suggests he's hiding his Islamic roots and may be a terrorist. It says he was sworn into the Senate on the Quran and turns his back on the flag during the pledge.
Obama's campaign blanketed South Carolina churches yesterday with literature that touted Obama's Christian faith.
On Sunday, Obama spoke at the Atlanta church where Martin Luther King Junior launched the civil rights movement, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama today called for unity to overcome America's "moral deficit."
In a visit steeped in symbolism -- coming a day before the King holiday -- Obama evoked the civil rights leader's legacy to a packed house of 2,000 mostly black worshippers.
Obama also used the pulpit at the Ebenezer Baptist Church to take blacks to task for failing to embrace gays, immigrants and Jews.
The congregation rose to its feet as Obama harkened back to the civil rights struggle that he said had made his campaign possible.
The Illinois senator offered what has become a familiar campaign message centering on hope. And he drew raucous applause as he referred to his own modest upbringing.
Obama said South Carolina's primary will be absolutely critical to his campaign.
In a radio interview with the Reverend Jesse Jackson, the Illinois senator was quick to point out that he won the majority of Nevada's Democratic delegates. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton edged him out in the popular vote in Nevada's caucuses.
Obama said immigration, education and the economy will be important issues in South Carolina. The Democratic primary here is Saturday.

Habari zilizotufikia zinasema kuwa mch. President Jakaya Kikwete has accepted resignation of Prime Minister Edward Lowassa tendered yesterday morning, and has dissolved the cabinet, according to a press statement issued by State House last night from Dodoma.
State House sources said that the President is expected to announce a new cabinet anytime from now.
Political observers are considering front runners for the post of the Prime Minister the current Foreign Minister, Mr Bernard Membe, and the Minister for Local Governments, Mizengo Pinda.
However, they did not rule out President Kikwete picking completely an outsider to oversee the government's affairs

Police probe into murder of Mwanza clergyman
Mwanza Police in Mwanza Region have launched an investigation against a bishop (name withheld), in connection with the brutal murder of pastor Claude Clevance Ishengoma of Highway Holiness Church at Igoma suburb in the lake side city last Saturday. The bishop who runs a church for born-again Christians is believed to have hired hit men to finish off pastor Ishengoma after they were embroiled in a feud. "We are investigating the bishop along with other suspects following tips-offs from various sources," Mwanza regional police commander Zelothe Stephen said yesterday. He said: "Some people believe that a clergyman in the church had contracted the assailants while others say the two men of the cloth were indulged in a quarrel over their lover they shared. We are investigating the matter." The commander said police are interrogating seven other suspects over the murder of the pastor. Two of the suspects are reported to have been found in possession of a laptop and two wireless microphones belonging to the murdered pastor. The two were arrested at an Internet caf頡t the city centre while testing the laptop. On November 23 at 8.30p.m, unidentified assailants stormed into pastor Ishengoma's residence and hacked him to death.

Assemblies of GOD church burnt in Kenya,50 killed

NAIROBI, Kenya - A mob torched Assemblies of GOD church where hundreds had sought refuge Tuesday, and witnesses said dozens of people — including children — were burned alive or hacked to death with machetes in ethnic violence that followed Kenya’s disputed election.
The killing of up to 50 ethnic Kikuyus in the Rift Valley city of Eldoret brought the death toll from four days of rioting to more than 275, raising fears of further unrest in what has been one of Africa’s most stable democracies.
The latest violence recalled scenes from the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, when more than a half-million people were killed. The question facing Kenya is whether the politicians will lose control of the mobs, triggering a civil war
President Mwai Kibaki, who was swiftly inaugurated for a second term Sunday after a vote that critics said was rigged, called for a meeting with his political opponents — a significant softening of tone for a man who rarely speaks to the press and who vowed to crack down on rioters.
But opposition candidate Raila Odinga refused, saying he would meet Kibaki only “if he announces that he was not elected.” Odinga accused the government of stoking the chaos, telling The Associated Press in an interview that Kibaki’s administration “is guilty, directly, of genocide.”
The violence — from the shantytowns of Nairobi to resort towns on the sweltering coast — has exposed long-festering tribal resentment.
The people killed in Eldoret, about 185 miles northwest of Nairobi, were members of Kibaki’s Kikuyu tribe. They had fled to the Assemblies of God Church on Monday night, seeking refuge after mobs torched homes. Video from a helicopter chartered by the Red Cross showed many homes in flames and the horizon obscured by smoke. Groups of people were seen seeking sanctuary at schools and the airport, while others moved into the forest.
2,000 attacked churchOn Tuesday morning, a mob of about 2,000 arrived at the church, said George Karanja, whose family had sought refuge there.
“They started burning the church,” Karanja said, his voice catching with emotion as he described the scene. “The mattresses that people were sleeping on caught fire. There was a stampede, and people fell on one another.”
Karanja, 37, helped pull out at least 10 people, but added, “I could not manage to pull out my sister’s son. He was screaming ’Uncle, uncle!’ ... He died.” The boy was 11.
Up to 50 people were killed in the attack, said a Red Cross official who spoke on condition of anonymity because her name would identify her tribe, and she feared reprisal. Even first aid workers were stopped by vigilantes who demanded their identity.

Karanja said his two children raised their hands as they left the church and they were beaten with a cane, but not killed. His 90-year-old father was attacked with a machete, but survived, he said.
“The worst part is that they were hacking people and then setting them on fire,” he added.
The attackers saw Karanja saving people and began stoning him, he said. Karanja said he ran and hid — submerging himself in a pit latrine outside the church property. He stayed there about 30 minutes until he heard people speaking Kikuyu.
The Kikuyu, Kenya’s largest ethnic group, are accused of turning their dominance of politics and business to the detriment of others. Odinga is from the Luo tribe, a smaller but still major tribe that says it has been marginalized.
There are more than 40 tribes in Kenya, and political leaders have often used unemployed and uneducated young men to intimidate opponents. While Kibaki and Odinga have support from across the tribal spectrum, the youth responsible for the violence tend to see politics in strictly ethnic terms.
In Nairobi’s slums, which are often divided along tribal lines, rival groups have been fighting each other with machetes and sticks as police use tear gas and bullets to keep them from pouring into the city center. The capital has been a ghost town for days, with residents stocking up on food and water and staying in their homes.
Parents in the capital’s slums — home to a third of its population — searched for food, with many shops closed because of looting.
Anne Njoki, a 28-year-old Kikuyu, said she fled her home in a shantytown after she saw Kikuyus being attacked and their homes looted. She was camped near a military base with her sister, 3-year-old nephew and 7-year-old niece.

“They have taken our beds, blankets, even spoons,” she said of the looters.
In the Mathare slum, Odinga supporters torched a minibus and attacked Kikuyu travelers, witnesses said.
“The car had 14 people in it, but they only slashed Kikuyus,” said witness Boniface Mwangi. Five were attacked by the machete-wielding gang, he said.
Thursday protest march plannedThe prospect of even more violence is ahead. Odinga insisted he would go ahead with plans to lead a protest march in the capital Thursday. The government banned the demonstration, but Odinga said: “It doesn’t matter what they say.”
The widespread violence and gathering international pressure could lead Kibaki to seek a compromise with the opposition.
The European Union and the United States have refused to congratulate Kibaki, and the EU and four top Kenyan election officials have called for an independent inquiry. In Britain, Kenya’s former colonial ruler, Prime Minister Gordon Brown urged Kibaki and Odinga to hold talks.
Election commission chairman Samuel Kivuitu said Tuesday he had been pressed by both an opposition party and Kibaki’s Party of National Unity to release the results of the vote. Western ambassadors “wanted me to delay announcing the results, even if it is for a week,” to allow the commission to investigate alleged irregularities, he said.
Kibaki, 76, won by a landslide in 2002, ending 24 years of rule by Daniel arap Moi. Kibaki is praised for turning the country into an east African economic powerhouse with an average growth rate of 5 percent, but his anti-graft campaign has been seen as a failure, and the country still struggles with tribalism and poverty.
Odinga, 62, cast himself as a champion of the poor. His main constituency is the Kibera slum, where some 700,000 people live in poverty, but he has been accused of failing to do enough to help them in 15 years as a member of parliament.
Kenya’s tourism industry, which brings in some $900 million and attracts more than 1 million visitors a year, is sure to suffer from the violence. The United States has warned tourists against all but essential travel to Kenya, and Britain has advised against travel in some areas.
Stuart Dickson, a Canadian who was vacationing in Nairobi, said he was cutting short his visit.
“We are leaving early because of the riots and how dangerous it is to be out on the streets,” he said. “With shops being closed and everything, it is not the best place for a tourist or traveler to be right now.”

The church and Kenya Election 2008

Religion and the debate between those who want a federal state and those who prefer centralised power have become key elements in Kenya’s election politics, which are heating up before the December 27 poll. The Kenyan Catholic Church is openly backing incumbent President Mwai Kibaki, who is seeking re- election and who wants to maintain the current system in which power is concentrated in the executive. Meanwhile, the two opposition Orange parties -- the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by Raila Odinga and the Orange Democratic Movement Party of Kenya (ODM-K) led by Kalonzo Musyoka -- are calling for a move to federalism, a concept which Muslim and Protestant religious leaders say has the support of large elements their communities. Odinga and Musyoka, both Christians, have managed to rally Muslims behind them. According to an opinion poll conducted by the Steadman Group in late-October, Odinga raced to an 11-point lead over Kibaki, polling at 50% against Kibaki’s 39%.The Catholic Church, led by cardinal-designate Archbishop John Njue, said last week that it supported the centralised authority advocated by Kibaki. Njue added that federalism was a recipe for civil unrest because it had the potential to trigger ethnic animosities and religious intolerance. The prelate has since been accused of using the pulpit to campaign for Kibaki, who is a Catholic.
Peter Karanja, the secretary of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), a protestant umbrella grouping, said this week that religion would “influence voter decision[s] on the ideological issues pursued by the parties”. “Federalism and unitary government with central authority are serious ideological issues to which the church’s decision is important. Voters will take the cue from religious leaders and support whoever their religion supports,” Karanja said. Karanja said the NCCK would state its official position on the matter after consultations with member denominations earlier this month. Meanwhile, Al Amin Kimathi, the spokesperson for the Supreme Council of Kenyan Muslims (Supkem), told the M&G that Muslims would back the opposition’s calls for federalism. He added that the Protestant and Muslim groups’ political stances were motivated by the desire for social and economic equality. “Muslims are going to vote as a bloc. The government, under the guise of flushing out terrorists, persecutes Muslims and has economically marginalised predominantly Muslim regions [the Coast and North Eastern provinces].

These elections will provide a platform to express Muslim fears through the ballot,” Kimathi said. The Muslim community has held several public demonstrations this year in protest against what it deems as religious persecution. NCCK and Supkem, both umbrella religious organisations, joined forces to crack former president Daniel arap Moi’s stranglehold on Kenyan politics. However, since a government-sponsored draft constitution was rejected in a 2005 referendum, the two bodies have been involved in a tussle to determine who ascends to power in this year’s polls. While Supkem supported federalism, the NCCK then backed the idea of a unitary state with central authority. When Odinga launched his election campaign on October 6, he vowed to ensure that Muslim fears of being marginalised would be addressed through a federal system. Odinga’s pledge to dispense with punitive anti-terrorism legislation also won him Muslim support. The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), to which Odinga belongs, is one of the Protestant churches that support federalism. Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi, the ACK’s spiritual leader, says that past inequalities in the distribution of economic opportunities should be addressed through “economic federalism”” Uneven regional economic development is usually a thorny election issue in Kenya, and is often blamed on the immense powers that are vested in the executive.

For the church's first three centuries, Christmas wasn't in December—or on the calendar at all.

It's very tough for us North Americans to imagine Mary and Joseph trudging to Bethlehem in anything but, as Christina Rosetti memorably described it, "the bleak mid-winter," surrounded by "snow on snow on snow." To us, Christmas and December are inseparable. But for the first three centuries of Christianity, Christmas wasn't in December—or on the calendar anywhere.
If observed at all, the celebration of Christ's birth was usually lumped in with Epiphany (January 6), one of the church's earliest established feasts. Some church leaders even opposed the idea of a birth celebration. Origen (c.185-c.254) preached that it would be wrong to honor Christ in the same way Pharaoh and Herod were honored. Birthdays were for pagan gods.
Not all of Origen's contemporaries agreed that Christ's birthday shouldn't be celebrated, and some began to speculate on the date (actual records were apparently long lost). Clement of Alexandria (c.150-c.215) favored May 20 but noted that others had argued for April 18, April 19, and May 28. Hippolytus (c.170-c.236) championed January 2. November 17, November 20, and March 25 all had backers as well. A Latin treatise written around 243 pegged March 21, because that was believed to be the date on which God created the sun. Polycarp (c.69-c.155) had followed the same line of reasoning to conclude that Christ's birth and baptism most likely occurred on Wednesday, because the sun was created on the fourth day.
The eventual choice of December 25, made perhaps as early as 273, reflects a convergence of Origen's concern about pagan gods and the church's identification of God's son with the celestial sun. December 25 already hosted two other related festivals: natalis solis invicti (the Roman "birth of the unconquered sun"), and the birthday of Mithras, the Iranian "Sun of Righteousness" whose worship was popular with Roman soldiers. The winter solstice, another celebration of the sun, fell just a few days earlier. Seeing that pagans were already exalting deities with some parallels to the true deity, church leaders decided to commandeer the date and introduce a new festival.
Western Christians first celebrated Christmas on December 25 in 336, after Emperor Constantine had declared Christianity the empire's favored religion. Eastern churches, however, held on to January 6 as the date for Christ's birth and his baptism. Most easterners eventually adopted December 25, celebrating Christ's birth on the earlier date and his baptism on the latter, but the Armenian church celebrates his birth on January 6. Incidentally, the Western church does celebrate Epiphany on January 6, but as the arrival date of the Magi rather than as the date of Christ's baptism.
Another wrinkle was added in the sixteenth century when Pope Gregory devised a new calendar, which was unevenly adopted. The Eastern Orthodox and some Protestants retained the Julian calendar, which meant they celebrated Christmas 13 days later than their Gregorian counterparts. Most—but not all—of the Christian world now agrees on the Gregorian calendar and the December 25 date.
The pagan origins of the Christmas date, as well as pagan origins for many Christmas customs (gift-giving and merrymaking from Roman Saturnalia; greenery, lights, and charity from the Roman New Year; Yule logs and various foods from Teutonic feasts), have always fueled arguments against the holiday. "It's just paganism wrapped with a Christian bow," naysayers argue. But while kowtowing to worldliness must always be a concern for Christians, the church has generally viewed efforts to reshape culture—including holidays—positively. As a theologian asserted in 320, "We hold this day holy, not like the pagans because of the birth of the sun, but because of him who made it."
